The Twelfth Meeting of the Tel-Hai Board of Trustees

On May 16-17 the twelfth meeting of the Tel-Hai College Board of Trustees took place. The meeting opened with a festive dinner hosting representatives of the Board, members of the academic faculties and administrative staff of Tel-Hai College, and Galilee leaders.

In the course of the evening the Tel Hai Dignitary Award was awarded to three individuals who have made a significant contribution to Tel-Hai College and its vision:

Professor Dan Levanon, scientist and founder of MIGAL Galilee Technology Center, who served as chair of the Tel-Hai Executive Board during the years 2003-2011, and is a true guiding light for the College.

Dr. Ed Mlavsky, director and founder of Gemini Israel Funds. Dr. Mlavsky chose Tel-Hai as the sole institution for the distribution of scholarships in his name and in the name of Gemini Israel Funds. Since contacting the College regarding the scholarship program Ed Mlavsky has become one of our most enthusiastic friends and supporters.

Adv. Eliyahu Shashua, trustee of the Brenner Family Foundation for the commemoration of Sofia Lennox and Board of Trustees member, led the Foundation's longtime partnerships with the Support Center for Students with Learning Disabilities and the School for Gifted Children. Adv. Shashua is a vital friends and supporter of the College for many years.

In addition to the Tel Hai Dignitary ceremony, certificates of excellence for community service were awarded to two students: Islam Hajir is the recipient of the David Friedman Fund award for her work with youth at risk in the Bedouin village of Bosmat-Tivon. Simona Segal was awarded a certificate of excellence from the Board of Trustees for her professional and personal contributions as an outstanding mentor for children with special needs.

A unique musical performance accompanied the evening, performed by student musicians from the Center for Peace and Democracy Arab-Jewish ensemble, who played music combining the rhythms and melodies of the two cultures.

On the following day the Board of Trustees convened to hear reports on the social and academic activities of the College over the past year, on new departments to be opened, as well as the performance of existing ones. Discussions were held on the future strategic goals of the College. In addition, new members and a new chairperson for the Board of Trustees were ratified.

We are pleased to welcome Simon Olswang, Professor Israel Bartal, Ms. Yael Vizel, Mr. Ofer Morrone, and Professor Benjamin Kedar to the Tel-Hai College Board of Trustees, and wish them fruitful and successful collaboration for years to come.

This meeting marked the end of Mr. Avraham Beiga Shochat's service as chairperson of the Board of Trustees. We wish to thank Mr. Shochat for years of dedication and action for the good of the College. We congratulate Mr. Aharon Beth-Halachmi, president of Federmann Enterprises - Industries and Technology, and a member of the Council for Higher Education committees for the foundation of the new medical school in the Galilee, on his new position as chairperson of the Tel-Hai College Board of Trustees. Much success to Mr. Beth Halachmi, and best wishes to Mr. Shochat who will continue to be a significant member of the Board of Trustees in the future.
